My chihuahua has worsening leg pain and a seizure. What can I do?

If she's not already a daily joint supplement and pain med from your vet is a good idea. A joint supplement can help protect the joint and reduce inflammation, while a pain med such as rimadyl can help to reduce pain and swelling and may help make her more comfortable during the trip. As it can take a bit to start working, asking your vet about it prior to the trip is a good idea.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Gadgit. Many things could be wrong and unfortunately you can't really do too much at home. The best thing would be is to take him in to your vet and let them get a thorough history, physical exam, and then advise some diagnostics for him which could include fecal tests, blood tests, urine tests, or x-rays to start with. The causes of this could be many including spinal/or hing leg problems from trauma, disc disease, infection, inflammation, anal gland problems, generalized weakness, fever, body aches, dehydration, etc. Your vet can advise a treatment plan once the above is performed. I wish you good luck but there really isn't much you can do at home if he is in this condition.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Peanut. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain which can be excruciatingly painful. He will be carefully examined to determine if this is the case or if he has another problem. Based on these results and any diagnostic testing, treatment recommendations can be made. In the meantime, do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

This is actually a sign of abdominal pain. Common causes are pancreatitis, gall bladder disease and intestinal disease. The incident with the couch appears to be a separate issue and not serious if he is waling fine. It's best to have Toby seen by a vet sometime soon, so the specific problem can be identified. If he does the pray stance/shaking again, then it would be best to take a video to show to the vet. I hope that helps and Toby gets better soon.

I am so sorry to hear that your pet has had what sounds like a neurologic disorder for a while now. The next best step here is to consult with a veterinary neurologist to hopefully get to the bottom of his pain and paralysis. Your regular veterinarian can refer you to a local neurologist for further advanced diagnostics and hopefully come up with a good treatment plan to help manage Richard's pain. If a neurologist is not doable right now financially, you can ask your vet to prescribe a neuropathic pain medication for Richard until you can get him in to be seen by the specialist. Also cold laser therapy or acupuncture may be helpful as well. Hopefully this can help make him more comfortable in the meantime. I hope that Richard is able to manage his pain well soon! Hi and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach about Gaby. I am so sorry to hear that she got hurt. Since Gaby's pain level has not significantly improved on the medications she has at home I am just as concerned as you are. You did not mention the exact medications that she is on but I am wondering if an additional medication may help her. If Gaby had any sort of neck/back pain during her trauma, it may help her to add a muscle relaxant to her treatment regimen (methocarbamol/robaxin). You should give your veterinarian a call right away to see if this would be an appropriate addition to her current treatments. You mention trouble walking and this is concerning for either primary neurological or orthopedic problem related to her fall. Even though xrays did not reveal a fracture, there are many problems that may still not have shown up (herniated disc, pinched spinal nerve). Sometimes the pain from these types of falls is bad enough that these older dogs need to be in the hospital on IV pain control to get them feeling better. I would highly recommend to consult with your veterinarian and assess if Gaby's pain is bad enough to warrant treatment in the hospital or just possibly try an additional medication at this time. In the meantime please restrict her exercise and movement to a bare minimum so that she does not further injure herself. Best of luck to your sweet Gaby.

Chihuahuas commonly get neck and back pain from bulging intervertebral discs. They are painful and don't want to move. That sounds like what Darcir experiencing. You should keep her quiet, carry her outdoors to go to the bathroom and no other exercise. Absolutely no jumping. Massaging her back to relieve the muscle spasms will help. This is a serious problem as they can become paralyzed. I recommend taking Darcir to your veterinarian for an exam, X-rays, pain medication and muscle relaxers.
