Are Cheyletiella mites resistant to Frontline? What products work?

I'm sorry to hear about your issue with Cheyletiella. They are a bothersome parasite to deal with! Apply Revolution every 2 weeks for 3 treatments (use appropriate dose for your kittens' weight). You can use Frontline Plus as well if you feel you aren't getting the results you wanted at the dosage of Revolution stated above. Fontline Plus can be applied every 2 weeks at the correct dose based off body weight for this problem. You should also use a lime silver dip or topical flea product to clean the kittens. Diluted bleach 1 part bleach:9 parts water sprayed on all surfaces and allows to sit for 10 minutes before wiping clean should help. All bedding and toys should be washed in hot water or thrown away. Many of the newer flea and tick products work against Cheyletilla mites, but Frontline Plus is still one of the products that we will commonly use to treat Cheyletiella mites. It is generally ok to apply these two different topical medications 15 days apart but I would make sure that your kitten is at least 8 weeks old before using a fipronil based product. Good luck, those mites always make me feel itchy, I feel for you and your kitten!

Lice are not terribly common in cats. I don't really feel like Frontline or fipronil products work very well anymore. I prefer products like Revolution or Bravecto. Seresto collars also offer great protection.

Cute kitty! It may take 3-4 weeks for the revolution to completely rid the infection. You can purchase Eradimite or Otomite without a prescription and this may help rid the infection more quickly. Not sure if the Zymox you’re using is the treatment drops (which are great) or the cleanser (also a great product) but if it’s not the cleanser you are using already, then get some type of ear cleanser to help break up the “gunk” and get them out of there. Since Frontline Plus and Revolution are 2 totally different products, you can apply the Revolution now and not wait until the full month is done. You shouldn't see any problems and if you do, I would advise calling your vet. Very occasionally cats and dogs will have problems with one topical product and not another. Just make sure that you apply it correctly right up over the neck where Negrito can't lick it off as soon as it is applied. Good luck and I hope Revolution works well for him. I do believe we are starting to see some problems with Frontline as I have witnessed the same problem last summer when using Frontline.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Did your Vet diagnoses Cheyletialla? They can be hard to get rid of. Frontline topical and spray (fipronil) should get it. It is not FDA approved for Cheyletialla and is used off label. Your Vet needs to diagnose the parasite then provide instructions on use of off label products. You can use Lyme Sulfur dips weekly for 3-4 weeks. I am not sure if Nexgard, Seresto or Advantix get Cheyletiela. I recommend a diagnosis for why all your animals are scratching and if it is Cheyletiella then I would use topical frontline as it is labeled for fleas. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!
