My dog chewed legs, broke skin, now has greenish pimples. What is it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 8 months old | 4 lbs

My dog has been chewing at her legs to the point where she broke skin. We took her to the vet and got her an e collar, but now there's these greenish pimples appearing on her other leg. I looked into it and found a blackish orange spot like three little pimples alined, but it also looks like it could be a bug or something.

It sounds like she has allergies with a skin infection. If your vet did not prescribe any medications then you should call and give him/her an update. She may need an anti-histamine, antibiotic, and a corticosteroid to help with the itch. A collar is not actually treating the problem as she is going to continue to itch if she has an allergy. There is also a new allergy medication called Apoquel which seems to work very well. You could also bathe her with a medicated shampoo, like Epi-Soothe and see if that helps.
