My dog's cherry eye surgery: Still discharge, healing slowly?

Cherry eye cane be frustrating as you have already found out. From the second photo, I do not see a prolapsed gland but it could just be the angle. I can clearly see the prolapsed on the first photo. When in doubt, take her in. Some dogs have a more prominent third eye lid and it can be sometimes hard to tell if the gland is actually out or not. Hopefully the surgery was a success and the gland is fully covered and protected. Best of luck!

2 weeks is very young to know just how severe the cherry eye may become. It's hard to give you specific advice without seeing a picture, but generally if you can see the membrane poking out I would go to the vet asap to have it checked. Sometimes it is simply protruding due to a treatable infection, or if it will be a case of surgery, the vet can prescribe lubricant and antiinflammatory drops to keep it comfortable until surgery is possible.

Some discharge is going to be normal because the surgery is associated with alot of swelling of the eyelids, and swelling can cause the eyes to produce more tears. Tears mixed with the ointment is going to look a little mucous-like. If the other dog is not going to lick her eyes or try to get her to play wildly, then yes it can be around her. If she is really squinting badly tomorrow, or if you see the corneas starting to look blue or cloudy, you need to take her in for a recheck right away. If sh'es eating fine, don't worry about the water--she will drink when she's thirsty.

Poor Ivy! She needs to go to the veterinarian for appropriate treatment. You will not find any over the counter medications that can help with a cherry eye. Ultimately Ivy may need surgery to replace the gland. It is a hereditary condition that is common in bulldogs and many other short muzzled breeds. It requires surgery to permanently replace the eyelid back in place. It would be worth having him evaluated to see if surgery is warranted in his case or if he needs any eye medications.
