Considering CBD for my senior dog's arthritis and joint pain?

Hello, I’m sorry to hear about Diesel. Dogs can experience arthritis as they age due to instability in their joints. One of the most common places for them to have arthritis is in their hip joints. Just as in people, arthritis leads to aches and pains with movement. Supplements can be helpful with arthritis, because they contain compounds to improve joint health. However, they will not heal the arthritis and get rid of the pain completely. If the supplements don’t seem to have a large effect on Diesel, I would recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian. They can examined his joints and look for discomfort. I'd say no. There is very limited research about the effectiveness of hemp oil in dogs, and we don't know the side effects of it or interactions with any other medication. If you want a joint supplement for Mugsy, I recommend Dasuquin or Cosequin.

CBD treatment in veterinary medicine is still fairly new so there really is not a lot of research right now on dosing and it's effects for various conditions. We just don’t have much data on CBD oil and safety in pets right now. All I can say is use it cautiously if you desire and choose a product marketed for pets. There is too much room for human error when trying to microdose human medication to pets. Also there may be contaminants or other ingredients there that are not suitable for dogs, so it is best to use caution and stick with the pet formulated one that has been tested in pets.
