Can my dog take cat joint supplements for luxating patella?

I think Florence would benefit from some joint supplements. I recommend dasuquin or flexadin with UC-II. If one alone doesn't help, you can also give both but you want to separate the two by 12 hours apart. Also, make sure you are giving her a high quality dog food which will have all the required vitamins and nutrients she needs. She will need to be on a puppy food until she is 10-12 months old. Hello. I would definitely start Lonnie on a good glucosamine supplement like Dasuquin made by Nutramax. Adding a fish oil to her diet can reduce inflammation ( I like Nordic Naturals ), too. Do talk to your vet about adding an anti-inflammatory medication to make her comfortable, & possibly even Adequan injections to help maintain healthy, lubricated joints. Poor Bosely! This can be a concern in the future. As the cat ages, arthritis develops and results not only in decreased mobility, but joint pain as well. Once arthritis develops, it cannot be reversed. In addition, patellar luxation predisposes the knee to other injuries, especially torn cruciate ligaments. I would have him seen by a vet to confirm the grade of his luxating patellas, and if surgery is an option or not. You can also discuss safe supplements to give him. Best of luck.

Hi and thanks for posting on PetCoach! The first thing I'd make sure Willow is eating is enough calcium. Be sure Willow is eating a kitten food until she is about 9 months to a year of age as kitten food has more calcium and other minerals in it that is required for healthy bone growth. A great supplement you may want to consider is DHA and EPA. Both are types of omega 3 fatty acid that are excellent for healthy development for multiple organ systems such as the heart, brain, skin, and bone/joint health. If Poncho is lame in one of his legs, he could have an injury ranging from a problem with his toes to something in his shoulder (front leg) or his hips (hind leg). If this is a chronic issue, it is possible Poncho has some arthritis in his joints, which may benefit from a joint supplement. However, if Poncho has a soft tissue injury or something like a fracture or dislocation of any of his bones or joints, a supplement will not help. I recommend restricting Poncho's activity for 3-5 days and see if this helps his lameness. If he is no longer limping on the leg after this rest, this may have just been a soft tissue injury that needed time to heal. If his lameness does not improve or worsens over this time, I recommend having Poncho seen by a veterinarian. He/she can perform a full physical exam and orthopedic exam to localize his pain and determine the best course of treatment. As a reminder, NEVER give dogs pain medication that is intended for humans, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!

It can help with mild discomfort in SOME dogs. It can help with cartilage damage with in the hip joint, so yes it can help hip dysplasia. Since Coco is painful it is obviously not enough for her.
