My dog can't walk after a shot in her leg. Is this permanent?

Maybe the injection has hit a nerve, it can happen sometimes, in such a case your dog might have severe pain in that leg for several days but it will eventually go back to normal. of course he might show this symptoms due to the disease he is treated from as well.

There are certain changes such as collapsed disc spaces and calcification of intervertebral disc spaces that are consistent disc disease. A dog can be sore from an injection and have swelling in the injection site. This should resolve within 24 hours. I hope this information helps!

Usually the pain only lasts a few days. I find massaging the area helps them to feel better, also taking her for several short leash walks usually relaxed the muscle soreness that is probably causing the lameness. If the limp continues more than a few days please bring her in for an exam as that would be unusual from a vaccination and they will want to find the reason for the lameness. Hi there! My goodness, Angel sure is cute! :) It sounds like Angel's muscle is sore from the injection. I would not be seriously worried about it but I be worried enough to have the vet that gave the vaccine recheck her. There is a nerve in the leg that may be affected that the vet should check. This should subside within 1-2 days. If it does not improve or it worsens, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I'm so sorry that Zeke is painful after his vaccination. Unfortunately, pain at the injection site is a possible side effect of vaccinations and some small dogs tend to become achy and painful all over. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian. There are some prescription pain medications that can be very helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation associated with vaccination. I will typically use Metacam which works very well. You may also ask your veterinarian if Zeke should have pain medication in the future before his vaccinations, so he does not have this problem again. Good luck! It is possible that the injection site is hurting a bit. We inject about 1cc under the skin and sometimes a dog reacts a bit sensitive to the vaccine. This is just a temporary effect and the pain should go away within 48 hours. Sometimes there is a swelling and that should also go away within about 48 hours. If the pain and/or swelling persists you will have to take Guss to a vet to have it examined, as in very rare cases the pet can get an injection abscess that would then need to be lanced,
