My dog has cancer symptoms. Can he still eat and drink normally?

Please don't worry about your choice! Dogs are very good at hiding pain (it comes from way back when they couldn't let predators know they were injured or sick.) It sounds as if it was Jake's time to go. I am very, very sorry about Jake.

This can be a very difficult decision, especially with stoic (or stubborn) dogs. As long as he is eating, drinking and behaving normally otherwise, he may be fine. Signs of pain or discomfort include lethargy, loss of appetite, panting, drooling, lameness or walking "hunched". Whining is typically the last thing dogs do when in pain. If he isn't doing at least two of them, then their quality of life has declined to a point where euthanasia should be considered. Another factor to consider with Jack is his appetite. If he stops eating all together, he will slowly be starving, and that will be quite painful for him. I wouldn't let him get to that point. Oftentimes, our dogs are ready to go before we are ready to let them go, and they hang on longer for us. Dogs are quite good at hiding their pain, especially if they see their owner is distressed. With dehydration they can feel sick, which will also make her not feel like eating. If she is also losing blood, then I would expect that she is going into shock now or sometime soon. For this reason, I recommend taking her to the vet sometime soon. I understand that she may have terminal cancer, so I'm sure your family may be thinking about euthanasia as an option. This is always a difficult decision and there is no right or wrong answer. If it seems like Kylie is not enjoying life anymore and there is no chance of treatment, then it may be time. However, there may be a way to improve her quality of life for a little longer, so it's worth taking her for an evaluation by your veterinarian as soon as you can. First off, I'm so sorry Rocky has cancer! How sad for both him and you. I think you should keep doing what you are doing with him. Unfortunately osteosarcoma has a very poor prognosis, and the life span isn't very long even with chemo. At this point in time, keep feeding him what he will eat, and give him lots of love and attention since he is eating, drinking, and acting normally. You can monitor his quality of life for an idea of when it's time to say goodbye. Make a list of five things he loves to do, and when he's no longer doing at least two of them, then his quality of life has decreased to a point where euthanasia should be considered. Sassy is such a cutie, and I'm sorry she is sick! If she is having some trouble walking, I would be concerned she may be painful and I would speak to your vet about possibly putting her on some pain medication. Otherwise, it sounds like from your description she is doing ok so far. In terms of symptoms you would see when she deteriorates, you would notice a decrease in appetite and/or a complete lack of appetite, decrease in energy and an increased desire to lay around more, and possibly difficulty controlling her bowels. Those are signs that cancer is making her sicker, and if you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet as soon as possible to see if there are any additional treatments that may help her. I am so sorry about the diagnosis for you and Diamond. This is a cancer of the blood so it can go anywhere. Typically without chemotherapy and only prednisone the survival time is 30-60 days. You can try low fat yogurt, lean ground beef, turkey, chicken and rice and baby food. Typically they will feel nauseated and sick and will not have an appetite towards the end. The swelling from the lymph nodes can interfer with their comfort and breathing. They will drop weight drastically. When they are too weak to walk anymore and have no appetite or keep vomiting then it will be time for you to discussed euthanasia and quality of life with your vet.
