My dog has a burn with discharge. Do I need shot records for the vet?

I assume by papers you mean his vaccine records. It’s ideal to have the vaccine records but in general it is not necessary. Gorda really needs to see a vet - she could be in significant pain and if the burns are serious they could become life threatening. You could look into Care Credit which might help, or you could contact your local animal shelter to see if there are any grants or subsidized veterinary care in your area. I wouldn’t recommend doing anything at home - it could make the wounds worse.

This could be a burn but it is hard for me to say without seeing it in person myself. That being said, the absolute best thing to put on this is Silver Sulfadiazine cream (also called SSD cream). This is burn cream they use on humans. You should be able to buy this at any pharmacy - ask the pharmacist. Apply it 2-3 times per day until healed. DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide on this - that will delay healing. If you want to clean it just use a mild soap and warm water. If he is sick or starts to act sick (not eating, lethargic, vomiting, etc) then get him to your vet right away. Burns can cause septicemia (blood infection) which is life threatening. If he is not sick you can proceed as above and hopefully this will heal up nicely. If the burns damaged the hair follicles then his hair may not grow back. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I would suspect Reese hasn't had his vaccines, and vets do not recognize home given vaccines as well. I would take him into a clinic to start his vaccine schedule. In addition, if he's 13 months, he should have had his rabies vaccines long ago, and that cannot be given at home. That can only be given by a vet, and there would be a record of it. Hi and thank you for the question. I do think this area looks infected. She probably suffered from a superficial minor burn. These, too can get infected. Until you can get to the vet, clean the area with a mild soap, dry thoroughly and apply a topical antibiotic. A cream type is best, but ointment would be phat as a second choice. She may need a prescription antibiotic and your vet can tell you that during the exam.

This presentation could be due to a localized trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and eventually antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.Oxide zinc cream (sudocream) can be applied when the skin is completely dry. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. I'm sorry to hear that Jax is so uncomfortable! The redness and inflammation on his foot is pretty significant. This type of skin issue is most commonly caused by underlying allergies to fleas, food or the environment. When dogs itch and bite a lot, they damage the protective outer layers of the skin, often resulting in the onset of bacterial and/or yeast skin infections. It's possible that he may need some anti-itch medications, antibiotics or anti-fungal medications. I understand that Jax is not the most cooperative at the vet, but this is something that warrants veterinary attention. I'd recommend calling your vet to ask if they can prescribe a sedative before the appointment or consider working with a house call vet in your area. I hope that everything goes well!
