Are these bumps on my dog ticks? Should I remove them myself?

I can't tell if my dog has ticks or not, if so should I remove them myself?

I don't think these are ticks from your photos. They look much more like skin cysts or growths that occur more often in older dogs. Don't attempt to remove them as if they are skin growths, you may cause your dog pain and they will bleed. Get Joey checked by your vet in the next 48hrs who will be able to determine what they are. If the type of growth is unclear, your vet may suggest a needle biopsy which is a non invasive way to determine the type of growth/ cells.

No these are not ticks! They small benign skin tumors by the look of them.
Ideally these small lumps (quite common as presentation) must be tested by your vet.
.Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration).
Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors.

Can you post again with some photos of these masses? It is hard to give any advice without actually seeing what you are referring to.

Some possibilities would be:

1. cyst
2. skin tag
3. wart
4. mole
5. tumor

My dog had a hard black growth removed, leaving a hole. Cyst or tick?

While I can't tell for sure from the picture, I believe this may be dried discharge from a cyst. Poodles and other breeds with continually growing hair are more prone to sebaceous cyst formation. Sometimes these cysts can rupture and push out a thick cheesy material. When this material dries it can form a crust that when removed reveals the inside of the cyst. I would keep the area clean and monitor for any signs of redness, continued discharge or swelling. Do not allow Pogo to lick at the area and if it becomes inflamed he should be seen by your veterinarian.

Based on the pictures, it does not look like a tick. It looks like a skin mass. Have your vet take a look at him to determine exactly what it is. Your vet may want to aspirate or biopsy to diagnose.

My dog has a tick-like growth, but he's on flea/tick meds. Vet?

Thank you for providing a picture of this area on Bosco! It could be that it's a skin tag, a type of benign tumor, and that's why it cannot be removed. It could also be a tick that is embedded, and I would not try to remove it again. It would be a good idea to have him seen by a vet for it, so it can be diagnosed and treated as needed.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for the picture! It looks like an engorged tick. Gently lift it up and if you see 8 legs then it is a tick. Pull it gently off the skin where the head attaches to the skin or you can have your Vet for Vet tech remove it for you. I would change the brand of tick prevention you are using or start using one. My dog has a painful bump. Tick or skin tag? What should I do?

It is difficult to know for sure without seeing it. I don't see a picture included so if you tried to upload a picture then it didn't work properly. With a tick, you can usually see some legs so if you don't see any legs then it could be a skin tag, especially since he seemed to be in pain when you tried to remove it. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at it to determine the exact cause and treat. Continue to use a flea/tick prevention, like Frontline, NexGard, Bravecto, etc.

My senior dog has a bump behind her ear. Is it an engorged tick?

I agree that this looks like an engorged tick on Bella's neck. Try to grab at the base of the attachment either firmly with a pair of tweezers or with your fingers, then smoothly and confidently pull it straight out. Your goal is to pull it straight out so that none of the mouth parts are left behind in the skin. If you're unable to remove it, seek veterinary attention for help in removing it. I can't tell what type of tick it is from the angles in this picture, but remember that ticks can transmit a variety of different infectious diseases. Due to this, I would have a blood test run on Bella in about 6 months to check for some of the more common diseases, like Lyme, Ehrlichia, or Anaplasma. If you don't already have her on a good flea and tick preventive medication, be sure to start one right away. I hope that everything goes well!
