Are brown spots on my dog's groin normal if they darken over time?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 4 years and 9 months old | 7 lbs

Hello, My Chihuahua has these brown spots that have appeared om his groin. They starred out a little lighter and became slightly darker over time. One appeared about 2 months ago and the other two have shown up since then. I know some sun spots are normal, I just wanted to make sure it was normal for them to show up gradually and darken over time. No other symptoms like itching, redness, etc. Just the spots. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pepe. They appear to be normal pigment changes on his abdomen. If they are flat with no ulcerated or open areas, you should not have to worry. You can certainly ask his veterinarian next time he is in, but I do not think he requires a special visit at this time. I hope this information helps!

It could be dirt. Try wiping the area with a pet wipe or a plain, unscented baby wipe. If that doesn't help, it could be minor irritation or inflammation. Keep the area clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) on him if he is licking excessively.
Normal pigmentation is also a possibility. If the changes continue, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

Hello, those marks appear like areas where he has been licking. Occasionally, pets can develop darker pigmentation around their inguinal areas as they begin to age. Most often this is a benign change. If the area appears to have concurrent bumps or nodules, or if the area is painful or causing discomfort to Bruno then you should have hi evaluated. Otherwise, monitor the site as long as he is doing well. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I'm seeing some dark, irregular patches on his skin that look like normal pigment to me. Sometimes dogs with patches of pigmented skin will develop more pigment as they age. If this is not what you're referring to repost your question and circle the area of concern.

As they age, the skin can darken, particularly in the groin and armpits. If Pico seems to be scratching or licking more, or if you sees signs of infection, then make an appointment to have him examined. Allergies can cause the skin to darker as well. My dog has new dark spots on her skin after grooming. Is it normal?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Many dogs normally have darker pigmented areas of skin under their fur. In some dogs, this does pigment can increase with age. It is impossible to tell only from a photograph however if this is normal pigment. She would need to be assessed by a veterinarian with a physical exam to determine if there is cause for concern.

There will be multiple darker spots on the belly. The spots can grow, change and fade as the dog ages. They are flat with the skin, there is no redness and they do not bother the dog. If this seems to be the case for him, testing should not be needed. This is not a cause for concern. If the bumps are itchy or develop scabs, then this is different and could indicate an infection. Should I worry about dark spots on my dog's belly near his penis?

These could be small bruises or just veins shining through the skin. I would not be too concerned unless they increase in size, If they increase in size or get darker, then you should take Hershey to a vet for an exam, and possibly a coagulation test, as this could be a sign of a blood disorder.
