Why does my dog's breath smell like sewer after teeth cleaning?

If the dental cleaning was more than 4-6 months ago, it's possible she needs another cleaning. Some small dogs accumulate tartar at alarming rates and need very frequent dental cleanings to keep everything healthy in there. If she had the cleaning in the last few weeks, I would recommend a follow up visit with her vet to make sure that the extraction sites are healing normally. The smell could be coming from an infection related to the removals.

My first suspicion for the ongoing odor is that she may be licking at her anal glands or eating her own (or someone else's) poop. Ideally, have her examined by a veterinarian just to make sure there are no wounds, irritation, etc in her mouth or throat that maybe contributing. You r vet can also check her anal glands to see if they seem full or irritated which could lead t her having a tendency to lick at them a lot. If her anal glands are fine, and her mouth is fine, use a daily product for dental health. Hello. You are probably right that the bad breath is not entirely from the teeth or oral cavity. Certainly other health conditions can contribute to Mitch's halitosis including gastrointestinal disease & renal disease. I would recommend an x-ray or his upper GI, including the esophagus to rule out a condition called megaesophagus, & then, of course, a CBC, serum chemistry, urinalysis & thyroid evaluation. If Tehya's teeth are fine, I would recommend getting blood work on her to make sure her kidneys are ok. Sometimes with kidney disease they can have a bad smell from their mouth. I would also discuss with your vet about potentially performing a dental procedure with x-rays to confirm there is no abscess we can see. Lily could have dental disease causing foul breath - bacteria form plaque on the teeth and underneath the gumline and cause bad breath. She could have a mass or wound in her mouth if this is a sudden change, or occasionally dogs with gastrointestinal disease will also have bad breath. I'd recommend having your veterinanrian examin Lily's mouth -she may need a dental exam and cleaning under anesthesia.

Bella is a cutie! It's unusual for the breath to already be smelling bad so soon after a dental. I recommend to have her examined by her vet to make sure the extraction sites are healed normally. Always better to be safe than sorry! If everything checks out normally, start brushing her teeth daily. Use a dog toothpaste. This will help to decrease the bacterial load in the mouth which is often responsible for bad smells. It will also improve her over-all dental health! Tita most likely either has severe periodontal disease or uremic breathe due to an underlying kidney problem (less likely). Have her evealuated by your vet and highly consider getting her teeth cleaned. If she does have a foul odor then periodontal disease is very possible and she may even require some teeth extractions to get her back on track to having a healthy mouth. Oral hygiene affects the health of so many other organs, so it's important to get this treated quickly.
