My dog had bloody diarrhea. How long should he stay on I/D food?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 62 lbs

It is I/D food. He did vomit. Diarrhea watery with blood. He was given IV fluids by vet. Toxic ingestion? His bloodwork was all normal. Hoping that was the reason they really took Rocco to the vet. I help support him. How long on this special diet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocco. If his symptoms have all resolved, I would finish the diet given to him by his veterinarian. It will help his gastrointestinal tract to heal. Once the food is gone, it is typically fine to go back to his original diet. However, if he seems to feel better on the new food, it is fine for him to continue on it. Usually it is used short term after an intoxication though. I hope this information helps!
