My dog's skin tag bled. What are signs of infection and when to see vet?

It may be that the mass has been injured or become infected. I would recommend to wash it with antibacterial soap daily and you can apply a topical antibiotic. Poor Pixie! If the wound is small, she may be able to heal it on her own. Check to make sure there’s no evidence of any gaping or deep tears. Otherwise make sure to keep the area clean and dry. You must make sure she does not lick the area or cause further trauma. An Elizabethan collar worn at all times will prevent licking.Check it every day for redness swelling or discharge as this would indicate infection. Typical wound healing is 10 to 14 days. These growths look like skin tags in the pictures. We can never be 100% certain without a biopsy. If they keep breaking open and bleeding then I recommend removing them. The reason for removing them is just to stop him from scratching them and having them break open. Otherwise just keep the growths clean. It could be a little skin tag or wart. I recommend keeping an eye on it and take her to the vet if it abruptly changes size, color, texture, etc., as this can be a sign that it should be removed. The next time she is in for a routine visit, show it to your vet so they can assess it and determine if it should be removed.

I am sorry to hear about Zoe. I would definitely recommend bringing her in to the vet to have this growth examined. If it is refilling with blood quickly it would be best to remove the growth surgically because we would be concerned there could be a large blood vessel associated with it and trauma could cause it to break open and have excessive bleeding. We would also want to be sure this is not a more serious growth than a skin tag because there are some more aggressive tumors of the skin such as cutaneous hemangiosarcoma that need to be treated more aggressively.

I would not recommend using the liquid bandage product as it could cause further irritation. If you want to bandage this, then I would suggest using medical tape and gauze pads to keep it covered. If surgery is not an option you may want to look into cryotherapy to have the skin masses removed. This is a non-invasive way of removing small tumors. It is not always effective but is a good option if surgical removal is not an option for you. I would recommend using zymox topical ointment on any of the open masses so that they do not become secondarily infected. I hope this helps! This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking.
