My dog is bleeding from the mouth and won't move. What should I do?

This dog would be examined using the ABCs (airway, breathing, circulation) and if stable, would have blood testing (CBC, chemistry) and chest x-rays to evaluate for rib fractures, integrity of the diaphragm, and pulmonary contusions (although these can take 24 hours to develop radiographically). In most cases, the dog would also have an IV catheter placed and be started on a "shock dose" of IV fluids.

You should take him to your vets without delay. If he is bleeding a lot you vet will have to put your dog under general anaesthesia to stop the bleed. Also, it is important to find out why he is bleeding. It could be due to a problem in the mouth (large wound or cut on the tongue, bleeding mass etc) but it could be a problem with blood clotting.

A dog that has been involve in a car accident needs to be checked professionally by a vet, it would not be responsible or even possible for me to start explaining to you how i would check him because it is complex and based on years of studying and experience. your dog will also most likely need to have an xray done to rule out internal organ damage. i strongly recommend taking him to the vet ASAP.

I recommend making an appointment with your vet when they open to take a look at it. Though she isn’t acting painful, it may become painful or infected. There isn’t anything you can do at home and no safe medications you can give for pain. If it is broken, she will likely need to undergo anesthesia to have the tooth removed. If Lucy is continually bleeding from the mouth, I have to disagree with your vet's assessment that everything is fine. There has to be some cause for the bleeding. Common causes of bleeding from the mouth would include some sort of trauma, dental issues, primary bleeding disorders (usually causing bleeding from the gumlines and inner lips), or some sort of bleeding mass inside the mouth that has ulcerated. I would be curious to know what kind of blood test was run. Was it a test to look at organ function, or was it a test to actually look at the blood's ability to clot appropriately? If your veterinarian did not perform an extremely thorough dental exam and oral exam, I would return and insist on it. You could also visit your local emergency clinic or another veterinarian to get a second opinion. Depending on the level of bleeding currently, you may want to go to the vet now rather than waiting. Since I can not physically see your dog, I always have to recommend going to the vet now in cases of active bleeding. Hope this helps.

It could be a loose tooth. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. See if she will let you look at her mouth gently so you can try to stop the bleeding if possible. If not, don't push it. Do not give her any food tonight or in the morning, and get her into a vet asap. She can have water.

Poor Max! He could have an infection, clotting problem, or possibly an autoimmune disease. It is concerning that he is hardly moving and I think it would be best if he was examined by a vet to determine the cause of problem and treat. I don't think there is anything that you can do at home without veterinary care to diagnose the problem. Your vet can run lab-work, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat. Hope he feels better soon!
