My dog's head has a bleeding hole after I removed a scab. Botfly?

Unless she is painful or lethargic, it can likely wait until the morning. Place an e-collar (cone) or a small t-shirt on her to prevent scratching, rubbing or licking. Do not squeeze or press the area. If you don't think she can wait, then by all meas have her seen at the nearest veterinary ER. If it is a cuterebra, it will need to be removed. If not, the wound will be cleaned and she will likely go home with antibiotics and pain medication (if indicated).

If this just appears to be a crusted area and is not raised, it is possible this was an insect bite that got irritated or a small scratch/wound. If the lesion is raised (I can't really tell from the appearance) then we sometimes get warty skin growths that can get traumatized and bleed/crust over. I would wash the area with a mild soap or Hibiclens (available at most drug stores) and apply a topical antibiotic like Polysporin or Neosporin a few times day. If she is scratching/rubbing at the area she may need an e-collar for a few days to stop self-trauma. If the lesions isn't improving after several days of this or it starts to get larger/other spots appear then these would be reasons to seek veterinary care.

Poor guy. This looks like a "hot spot" or superficial pyoderma (infected area) on the skin. This can be caused by an initial knick or scrap on the skin that later got infected and scabbed over. Flea bites are a common cause of hot spots, so its best to keep Bono on flea prevention year round it they are common in your area. Your vet should be able to prescribe some oral antibiotics to help this resolve completely. The wound spray you have may be sufficient, so its best to take it in with you to Bono's vet appt for your vet to see. If not, then the vet will likely recommend another topical to use. I would hold pressure on it to stop the bleeding. Then you can use neosporin on it twice a day and make sure he isn't scratching it. If it isn't improving or it is getting worse, I would see your vet to make sure he doesn't need any oral antibiotics. I hope this helps!

Thanks for sending in the pictures of Oliver. It is a little difficult for me to make out the pictures, but it appears like he has a small skin growth on his head that has scabbed over. I would gently clean the scab and dried blood away with a warm wash cloth. If there is a flesh colored growth it may be a wart like mass. They are common in many dogs as they age. If he has been scratching at his head, then it could be self trauma secondary to his allergies. If it bothers him or does not resolve, then have your veterinarian evaluate him.

Hi ! It is difficult to tell 100% from the pictures as you only can only gather some information. It does look like the black scab is necrotic (dead ) tissue, possibly due to lying on a hard surface for prolonged periods of time. The necrotic tissue has partially come off exposing some live and bleeding tissue. This is my impression ! I would recommend to have Riabow checked over so that she can receive some treatment, this wound will cause lots of discomfort !

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is definitely a scab but from what, I don't know. This could be from trauma, an insect bite (like a tick) or the start of a skin infection. Unfortunately there is no way to tell for sure. I wouldn't be overly worried at this stage. Personally, if Buffy were my dog, I would just leave it alone and monitor it. But, if you want to do something at home, you can apply a thin layer of an antibiotic ointment over it twice a day. If it doesn't heal or it looks worse at any stage then get him to your vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
