My Pit Bull is bleeding from his head and tail. Why won't it stop?

If you are unsure of where the bleeding is coming from, I would recommend Taz see his veterinarian for an exam to help determined where the bleeding is occurring so it can be stopped and addressed appropriately.

Hello, sorry to hear about Tyson. There are a couple of reasons that can cause male dogs to bleed from their penis. Dogs can acquire infections of their prepuce, they can prolapse their urethra, they can have masses on their penis, or they can have paraphimosis. I would recommend having Tyson seen by his veterinarian soon to ensure he is not in pain or in need of medications to treat his condition. In the interim, keep him calm and monitor his bleeding. Any sign of severe bleeding would warrant an immediate visit to the emergency room. Hope this helps and best of luck.

It could be King Midas has happy tail syndrome. This is when they wag their tail so vigorously that causes serious damage to the tip of the tail when they hit a hard service multiple times. The skin at or near the tip of the tail gets abraded so much so that it starts to bleed. I would take him into the vet for this problem. The vet can diagnose what is causing his bleeding, and if he does have happy tail syndrome, they can discuss treatment options. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. Therapy cannot be recommended without being to evaluate the area and oral antibiotics are likely going to be needed which can only be prescribed by a veterinarian who has seen the patient in person. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

I'm sorry Samantha's tail was slammed in a dog! First off, you did exactly the right thing by taking her into the vet. The problem with tail wounds is that dogs wag their tails, putting the wound at risk of opening back up. If Samantha is wagging her tail, that's probably why you are still seeing a bit of blood. If it's only a bit of blood, then I wouldn't be concerned. If it's a lot of blood, I would be concerned, and then you should take her back into your vet. It's impossible to get a dog to stop wagging their tail, so I recommend putting a bandage over the wound where it's bleeding in an effort to stop the bleeding. Don't put the bandage on so tight that it restricts blood flow to the tail. Samantha may want to bite and chew at the bandage, so I would get an Ecollar from the pet store to prevent her from doing that.

It sounds like Sami may be having an allergic reaction to something. If she is so itchy that she is causing severe trauma to her skin, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian as quickly as possible. She may need an antihistamine and steroid injection to stop an allergic reaction and even possible antibiotics to help her skin heal without secondary infection. You can safely try to bathe the affected areas with a cool damp wash cloth to remove any irritant that could be on the surface of the skin, but if she has been licking she has already done this.

Poor Scarlet. If the wound is mild (the bleeding is stopping on its won, there is no muscle or deep tissue exposure, etc), you can apply pressure to stop the bleeding and clean the wound with saline rinse and apply triple antibiotic ointment. An E-collar or "cone" can prevent licking/biting and further trauma as the wound heals. However, if the bleeding does not stop on it's own, Scarlet appears to be in pain, or the wound is very deep, Scarlet should be seen by a vet right away, as she may need sutures, antibiotics, and pain medication.
