My boxer puppy has bleeding head sores and dry skin. What's wrong?

It may be from a reaction from a bug bite or a scratch that occurred or an infection in the hair or skin. Clean it with mild soap and water and apply neosporin but be careful to not get any in her eyes. Take her to your vet tomorrow for a skin sample to find out the cause

Cocoa could have a mild infection like bacteria or yeast causing these lesions as well as allergies. Sometimes medicated pet wipes help but if they don't clear up within a day or two she may need prescription strength medication from your veterinarian.

It sounds like Katella could have a skin infection going on. This can be caused by yeast or bacteria, is often secondary to skin allergies, and can lead to hair falling out easily, crusting or flaking of the skin, pimples, and itchiness potentially. I would have katella evaluated by a veterinarian. They can recommend medicated shampoos and topical treatments as well as oral antibiotics if necessary. Her skin will hopefully be back to normal in no time!

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Poor Romeo! Skin problems in dogs are usually related to allergies. Humans display allergies in our eyes and noses, but dogs do so in their skin. The top allergies are flea, food and inhalant. Flea allergies typically cause hair loss and itchiness on the back 1/3 of the dog especially around the tail. Food can cause ear problems and general skin issues. Inhalant tend to be on the legs and the abdomen and sometimes ears. When a dog has allergies, the skin isn't as healthy so it can't fight off the normally occurring yeast and bacteria on the skin, so they tend to get secondary bacterial or yeast infections. I am concerned that Romeo might have a secondary infection. Inhalant allergies tend to start from 3-5 years of age and tend to get worse... I recommend taking him to a veterinary and get a thorough exam. They will most likely do some diagnostics like a skin impression smear (push a slide on skin and check under a microscope), skin scrape (for mites) and a fungal culture. After they do that, they will discuss a treatment plan with you. Please have patience, there is not one plan that works for all allergy dogs. It is sometimes trial and error to find what works.... Kind of like it is for human allergies. :- ) Allergies can not be cured, only controlled. Communication is very important with your veterinarian to let them know what works and what doesn't. This is definitely a concerning area on the skin. Poor B.B., this does look painful. It looks like she has a severe inflammatory reaction (possibly allergic reaction) occurring on her skin, as well as a possible skin infection and also what look like petechiae (indicator of a bleeding disorder) on the skin. It is also possible that this area represent some kind of skin cancer (especially with her history), severe allergy, or an immune mediated skin disorder (i..e lupus). You will have to rely on your vet to do the appropriate skin testing, bloodwork analysis, examination and then the appropriate treatment based on the findings.
