My Shih Tzu's cyst is bleeding, and she's licking paws. Is it serious?

If it is bothering Joey enough to cause him to lick it, the first thing you need to do is prevent him from continuing that type of behavior. The best thing you can get for this is an e-collar or cone. While it makes them look ridiculous, they are effective at preventing self-mutilation and worsening infections. You can also make home made ones, which are illustrated for you on You tube. If you are truly dealing with a cyst like structure, these tend to increase in size until the point of rupture, they drain, and then they refill. It is impossible to tell what this is based on this picture, but it certainly might be a cyst. The best way to ascertain the origin of the lesion is with a biopsy or a fine needle aspirate. While a biopsy is certain the gold standard, it is much more invasive and costly than allowing your vet to obtain a needle aspirate. The aspirate will get your vet some cellular material to view on the microscope that will at least give him an idea of whether or not the lesion is something that he/she should be worrying about it. Whether or not this is the route you go with, the area is likely mildly infected and causing Joey some pain. He would probably benefit from antibiotics and pain management. It does look like Dyl may have a cyst in between his toes. He'll likely need a vet to help it heal, as it typically requires antibiotics and potentially steroids as well. You can try to keep it clean and keep him from licking it in the meantime. Good luck!

It could be a cyst, mass, or pustule. Have your vet take a look at it to determine the best way to treat. She may need an antibiotic to treat an infection and/or it may need to be removed. Your vet can do an aspirate to help diagnose.

It looks like she may have a small abrasion or had an insect bite and licked it. Keep an eye on it and make sure it stays clean and dry. If it does not improve over the net day or two or if it gets worse, get her in to see your vet.

Poor Coco. Based on the pictures, I am concerned that it is infected and that is not a normal part of the healing process. It looks worse in the second picture compared to the first. She cannot wait two weeks to see a vet, I would see if you can get her in on an emergency basis or take her into an ER vet. While you are calling around to get her into an ER vet, put a cone on her to keep her from licking it and making it worse. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. If her issue has been so persistent, if she hasn’t had more focused diagnostic testing, I would recommend considering doing a culture to try to isolate any yeast or bacteria that is causing her issue, and possibly a skin biopsy to ensure that it is secondary to an allergy. If it is an allergy, there is a new injection that is used to treat allergies called Cytopoint. I would recommend reaching out to your regular veterinarian to discuss either further testing or treatment that she may need. Good luck!

Yes this looks like an infected interdigital cyst. Please put a restraint collar on Prada to stop the licking and clean the area with antibacterial soap twice a day until healed. Leave it open to the air, no bandage. If it doesn't look like it's improving an exam with your veterinarian is recommended probably with a course of antibiotics.
