Why is my dog bleeding from his bum and pooping like jam?

Hi my dog has just started bleeding from the bum. At first it looked like it was under his anus but he pooed what looked like strawberry jam..

It sounds like your dog has a severe case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon. Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease and viruses. Since King is defecating blood at this point I would recommend taking him in to the vet to be examined. He may need fluids to correct any dehydration, a fecal examination performed and antibiotics and/or probiotics to help the diarrhea clear up.

Poor King! It sounds like he has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) which is a fancy term for blood in the poop or in vomit. It tends to look like raspberry jam. the blood indicates inflammation in the colon.

I recommend starting a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. feed about 2 cups per day until 1-2 normal stools. If he starts vomiting or doesn't improve he should see your Vet.

It's difficult to tell for sure without seeing him, but it seems like he has developed colitis, which generally means that his colon is irritated. This could definitely be due to the strap tie, but puppies also commonly get infections that cause similar signs.

Anytime there is bleeding, I recommend they visit a vet. Bleeding indicates that there is a break in the lining of the colon, which can allow infections to get in the bloodstream and cause serious complications. I recommend taking him to a vet within the next 24 hours to ensure the best outcome.

Why is my senior dog bleeding from his bum after anal gland issues?

Oh my. Poor Ben. Bleeding inside the rectum is not a good sign unfortunately. A mass inside the rectum is a feasible possibility considering the fact that anal gland don’t usually bleed out the rectum in this fashion because a small duct is the only opening to the rectum from the anal glands. It is more likely the bleeding is coming from the colon and a bleeding ulcerated mass has to be seriously considered. Your vet should be able to do a rectal exam and/or endoscopy to look for a possible mass and help you with your decision making moving forward. I hope everything turns out ok for your pet Ben. Why is my dog bleeding from her anus with a red bulge after pooping?

It sounds like your dog has a rectal polyp. This fleshy bit of tissue is likely what is causing the blood you are seeing in the stool. If the treatment your vet prescribed is not working Jaz may need surgery to remove the polyp. Some vets feel comfortable performing this surgery while others may refer you to a specialist for surgery or endoscopy. I would recommend speaking with your vet about a possible referral to have the polyp removed.

My dog has bloody diarrhea and can't control his bowels. What to do?

I am very sorry to hear that Honor is experiencing this issue, I am sure it is unsettling. From what you are describing, diarrhea which becomes liquid and has fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Honor has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in dogs, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed these episodes over a few hours I would continue to monitor Honor at home. Start by resting his gastrointestinal tract for a few hours. Then Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. If the episodes continue into the evening, if Honor becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Honor to see his vet. My dog has bloody diarrhea with mucus and is acting weird. What to do?

Both of these conditions need a vet attention and most likely a course of antibiotics. Please, take Simba to your regular vets to confirm the diagnosis and to get treatment for him. Why is my dog's stool red and jelly-like, and anal glands leaking?

If the blood and mucous is coming from his anal gland, he may have an infected anal gland. If that is the case, he may need an infusion or oral antibiotics to resolve it.
