Why is my dog bleeding after ovary removal? Can she get pregnant?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your pictures I wouldn't call it heavy bleeding. Dogs mate when the female is in heat (during bleeding). Breeding may have triggered some blood that had been pooling. I wouldn't worry unless it continues or she is lethargic. But yes, she can still get pregnant. Good luck!

No, that is not something that is normally seen. With your pet being 6 years old and a larger greed based on the weight you have indicated, she is really past the recommended age for breeding. If she is still bleeding after nearly 4 weeks and it doesn’t appear to be subsiding, she should be checked out by a veterinarian. She may have a uterine infection starting. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If there are no other signs of heat (swollen vulva, swollen teats), then I am concerned for a urinary tract infection. Take Molly and a sample of her urine in to the vet. If there ARE signs that she is in heat, talk to your vet about testing for an ovarian remnant (a few ovary cells left in the body can be enough to trigger a heat sometimes). It sounds like she is showing heat behaviors, and this can be a sign of an ovarian remnant left behind. I'd have her seen by a vet today or tomorrow for a hormone stimulation test. This will diagnose if she does have an ovarian remnant or not. If she does, she will need surgery to remove it. Best of luck.

Yes, this can be due to a problem in her uterus. It could normal but since it’s been so long since she bled before there could be an infection or mass in the uterus or vagina. I recommend an exam and they may want to do an X-ray to make sure her uterus is normal size. I do recommend spaying her if you can so they can remove and examine the uterus and prevent her from getting a uterine infection or cancer. Also unspayed females have a higher incidence of breast cancer so that’s another reason for having her spayed soon. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! On average during a dogs heat, they bleed for 10 days but it can be 2-4 weeks as well. Any bleeding past 4 weeks, or if Cherri is acting sick, is concerning and she should see a Vet for an infected uterus (pyometra). It sounds like Cherri bled for about 21 days? If she has stopped I am hoping she is now out of heat. You can do an ultrasound around 30 days from breeding to check for fetal heart beats or take an X-ray at day 50 to look for mineralized skeletons to confirm if she is pregnant.
