Could bladder stones cause my dog severe pain or mimic IVDD?

That being said, the shivering could be pain related. The stones can be quite uncomfortable and if he is not on any pain medications this could be why. It is hard to look at x-rays through the PetCoach system, but I do not see any bladder stones. There does appear to be some gas in the bladder, which may have been inadvertently introduced through catheterization or could indicate the presence of a gas-producing bacteria. The prostate is significantly enlarged, to the point where it could constrict the urethra and cause straining to urinate. The urinalysis shows a possible infection, which could come from the bladder or prostate. I would not start urinary alkalizers without the certainty of oxalate stones. Bloat with a gastric torsion would be rare in a small dog, like a Maltese. If he is still having problems then you should call your vet and have him rechecked. If he is having trouble moving around then your vet can check his back and neck and make sure he isn't having an issue with his spine. Your vet may need to run some blood-work to help diagnose the problem and/or repeat x-rays. He may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to make him more comfortable. Hello. I am sorry to hear that Shiko isn't feeling well. A cause of a hunched back and weakness (especially if seen more in the back legs) is something called IVDD (intervertebral disc disease). This can be very painful and would result in normal bloodwork and normal eating/drinking. To diagnose this properly you need a CT, however it can sometimes be seen with radiographs. I would discuss this as a possible cause with your vet. If this is the case pain medications and strict cage rest is recommended for 4-6weeks, or possible surgery if it gets worse. Yes, it is possible that the meds are not strong enough, personally those medications would not be my first choice for IVDD as this is usually a very painful condition and these medications are not strong enough to treat this type of pain. i would recommend contacting you vet in order to switch the Codein with Tramadol and add either Metacam or Rymadil to the treatment as well.

I'm sorry that Eevee is having such problems! It is certainly likely that she is experiencing a problem with her back such as IVDD, as that would cause compression of the spinal nerves leading to difficulty using her legs as well as urinary and fecal incontinence. I recommend having x-rays done on Eevee's spine. This can help confirm if she does have IVDD. Should she have it, surgery is the recommended treatment.
