HI- I just discovered black flecks on the back of the neck and head of my 12yo Cavapoo. She is not scratching and there does not appear to be any fleas. She is acting normally, The area is blackest on the back of her head and upper back/spine. Thanks!

Hi there
It looks like Izzy could either have a flea infection or a bacterial infection. Fleas may not be visualized but can leave black specks called flea dirt. It may also be bacterial which can clog the pores and cause what you’re seeing.
I’d recommend treating her for fleas with a topical product but before that giving her a good bath with an aloe and oatmeal shampoo. I would also recommend a vet exam for skin testing to be able to narrow down exactly what’s causing it and getting treatment to fix the issue.
Best wishes to you and Izzy! Thanks for using Pet Coach.
