My dog has a bite and smells like paraffin or petrol. Is it serious?

I would be worried that maybe she drank some, or something else from a garage. I recommend having her to a vet right away as Nancy could have a toxicity issue. It sounds like your dog has developed an abscess from being bitten, and he needs to see a vet immediately. The abscess will need to be drained and flushed sterilely, and he will need antibiotics to treat the infection. Please take him into a vet now.

This sign, if the smell is generalized and coming from the skin, could be caused by skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and eventually antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. There are various causes for the bad smell and they will need to be investigated by a veterinarian. 1) your dog (I am assuming it is a dog, you do not say anywhere what type of animal he is) may have a particularly stinky type of bacteria in his anal sacs. This could be remedied by emptying them and flushing them with an antibitic that kills off all bacteria and then hopefully a new type of bacteria will take up residence. 2) Your dog may have particularly smelly bacteria in his skin that emit a bad smell. Certain antibacterial shampoos can alleviate that 3) your dog may have a mite infection. Sarcoptes mite infections have a typical sweet smell. Sarcoptes mites can be killed with avermectins or a Bravecto chew. 4) He could have a fungal infection (treatable with fungicidal shampoo and/or tablets) 5) If you have other dogs in your house he may have a particular pack smell. 6) He may have a skin condition such as seborrhea which invites certain bacteria who can cause a bad smell. I suggest yu make an appointment with your vet who should then examine your dog and check for the various causes and treat accordingly. Don't forget to do flea control.

I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in to his vet to examine the wound if it is not improving. It probably needs to be shaved and cleaned (I cannot see the actual wound in the photo so assume it is covered in fur and the wet area on the cheek). Often bites are puncture wounds and are deep and sometimes do require antibiotics to treat infection.

If her behaviour s abnormal she should be assessed by an emergency vet to rule out poisoning from toxic subtances which may have been in the oil. She will also need to be decontaminated, washing with cool detergent may help but in severe cases clipping may be the fastest and safest option, especially if she is disorentaed and may drink or swallow water, Try to prevent her licking or grooming herself until you have haer assessed as swallowing the ol may be dangerous to her

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Moon! If your dogs got in to a fight then it is possible that there is a wound in her mouth. Blood does smell like metal. It is difficult to find small wounds in the mouth of an awake dog. I want to reassure you that small wounds in the mouth usually heal quickly on their own. If you are not seeing blood, bloody drool, she is comfortable, isn't doing weird things with her mouth, is eating and drinking then I wouldn't worry. Another possibility is that during the fight one of the dogs expressed their anal glands. Anal glands well like sulfury, fishy, metallic stool. Check around both dogs hind ends. Clean them with soap and water if you notice the smell there. I wish you the best!
