My dog bit a frog, then I gave her garlic. What should I do now?

There are frogs that are toxic to dogs, but most just cause drooling because of the taste of their skin. The garlic however, is very toxic to dogs. I recommend giving Lucie 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and run her around outside to induce vomiting. If that doesn't work, I would take her to a vet right away to check her blood and give her medications to prevent absorption of the garlic. Good luck and kisses to Lucie!

Some frogs have a toxin on their skin that can cause hypersalivation. If this occurs, thoroughly rinse the mouth out with lots of water. Occasionally, the toxin can cause lethargy, weakness, changes in pupil size, and tremors. If this occurs, Lucie needs to see a vet immediately for supportive care and hospitalization.

Garlic can be toxic to dogs. It can range from stomach upset (vomiting, diarrhea) to damage to the red blood cells. If she may have ingested a large amount of garlic, I would recommend that she see a vet immediately to induce vomiting since the damage to her red blood cells can be very serious and does not show up for several days. I'm sorry to hear Duchess may have had contact with a potential toxin. Not all frogs and toads are dangerous to dogs, but the ines that secrete toxins on their backs are. I would rinse her mouth out immediately with copious amounts of water, and then contact your regular veterinarian or local poison control to see if further action and decontamination is required. Why is my dog foaming after chasing a frog and acting so lazy?

Many frogs have a bitter toxin on their skin. When a dog touches it with their mouth, they foam trying to get the toxin off. Flush your dog's mouth copiously with water in an attempt to wash off the toxin. Sometimes, the toxin can absorb and cause other issues, like lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, dilated pupils, etc. If you see these symptoms in Brownie, she should see the vet as soon as possible.

I'm not familiar with the specific frogs in your area, but in my area frog ingestion usually causes mild GI upset (vomiting, diarrhea) and can sometimes cause neurological symptoms such as transient seizures. In both cases, we offer supportive care so it would be helpful to know what signs of illness you're seeing in Pochay that make you concerned she's been poisoned. If you're seeing mild GI upset, you can offer her bland food (white rice with cooked chicken breast) in small amounts until her symptoms subside, and encourage lots of fluids by adding extra water to her rice/chicken. Fluids will help flush irritating toxins from her body. If you're seeing neurological symptoms, she should be seen by a vet, to provide fluid support until she's feeling normal enough to eat

My dog had a toad in her mouth and foamed. Is she poisoned or okay?

Peita should be just fine! Depending on the type of toad, they can have some toxins on their outer surface that taste awful so predators will spit them out if they try to eat them (which sounds exactly like what happened with Peita). Once the source (i.e. the toad) is removed so is the taste. So you do not need to worry!
