My Staffy has a bald patch on her nose. Should I take her to the vet?

The front and base of the back can go slightly bald, that is normal, anything else might not be. It could be due to an ear condition or a skin condition (e.g. Mites) and in that case I would recommend to have it checked by your vet.

If the spot has changed in size over time it wouldn't hurt to have your vet take another look at it, especially if the change was very rapid over the past few days or weeks. Your vet may recommend taking a sample of the spot for testing to help determine what it may be so it can be treated as needed. Growths like this can be caused by any number of things including rubbing the spot often on surfaces, cysts, blisters, allergies, etc, so having it examined if it is changing is best.

Hi there and thanks for posting this question. Certainly there can be many causes for this, but young dogs commonly will have a mite called demodex mite. I suspect by the age and description that this may be the problem. I would recommend that he be seen by a veterinarian. They will likely do a skin scraping to look for mites. If she is very young, she might have a patch of hair loss due to skin mites called Demodex. This patch could also be infectious, bacterial or fungal. I would suggest getting her seen by her veterinarian to have diagnostic tests performed to see what the primary cause of this patch of hair loss is. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). This may be from a scratch or rubbing. I would ignore it. Usually the hair regrows within a few weeks. However, if the hair loss increases, you should have it examined by your vet as this may be fungal or bacterial and may need specific treatment. (an antifungal, if caused by a fungus, an antibiotic if caused by bacteria.).

Hello, Chico's nose appears to have been slightly rubbed raw. This can happen when dogs are rubbing their noses against a surface frequently and generally heals on its own. I do worry that the patch of circular hair loss on his leg may be associated with a skin infection. I'd recommend taking him to see a veterinarian to have it checked.
