My dog has a bald bloody spot. Is it an injury or infection?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). This looks like an injury that has some infection with it. I recommend cleaning the area with a warm damp cloth and massaging it to get any infection draining out. You can then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. If it isn’t improving, your dog seems sick or lethargic then certainly bring him in right away for a veterinary exam and treatment. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Ouch! That's quite the sore spot. It's possible it was snagged on something, or Shylah was licking/scratching at the spot. Since it's a rather large wound, it'd be a good idea to have your vet take a look so they can clean and clip around it and provide you with any antibiotics or pain meds as needed. Until then, keeping her from licking at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar, and keeping the area clean and dry may help reduce irritation.

It's difficult to tell from your pictures what this is, but it does appear that it may be infected. Even if she can't reach it to lick or chew, if it is itchy or painful she may be scratching it with a foot or even rubbing on the ground or furniture to scratch it. I would recommend a vet visit to assess the spot and determine what it may be. If it is getting larger it could be a mass or growth, or infection/hotspot that requires antibiotics. The vet may clip away the hair from the lesion and possibly do a cytology to find out what type of cells or infection are present. From there appropriate treatment can be determined.

From the crusting and redness, it does look like Lexi has an infection in her skin. You could start by doing a compress with warm wet washcloth to soften up and clean the crust away. Then clean the area with an antiseptic like betadine solution (diluted to the color of weak tea) and apply a topical triple antibiotic ointment. Based on where exactly it is, I would put on a cone or even a little t-shirt to stop her from scratching at it. If it doesn't improve or starts to spread, I would definitely recommend taking her to a vet for an exam as they sometimes need to be prescribed oral antibiotics.

He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection, cyst, mass, etc. and your vet can do a needle aspirate, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He may need an antibiotic and and anti-inflammatory to treat the problem.
