Why is my dog backward sneezing after getting a nasal vaccine?

A reverse sneeze can be caused by irritants in the upper airway region so if there has been an increased amount of dust in the air this could potentially be causing the symptoms you are seeing. An environmental allergy or an upper respiratory infection could also lead to these symptoms. A reverse sneeze should resolve within a short amount of time. However, if it persist or worsens, I would have a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I had a patient that had managed to get a piece of carrot up into his nasopharyngeal area. After a week or more of reverse sneezing we did a nasal flush and found it. I have also seen nasal mites and cancer cause these signs. If he doesn’t improve soon then a nasal flush or rhinoscopy would be indicated. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

The kennel cough vaccine can cause minor irritation to the sinuses which can result in some sneezing or snorting. This can also be from allergies or an infection starting. If you notice any change in appetite or an ocular discharge then I would him techies by your vet. If not it will dry up and pass on its own

Reverse sneezing isn't particularly linked to vaccinations or to heartworm medication. It is simply irritation of the throat (larynx) due to possible allergies or irritation of the throat from a foreign object. I would recommend monitoring her today to see if the reverse sneezing resolves on its own within 24 hrs. As long as she isn't acting ill, eating, drinking well then its ok to monitor. If the sneezing fits don't seem to be resolving on their own, then its best to contact your vet who will likely recommend a short course of antihistamines to try next. It's hard to say for sure, but what you may be describing is reverse sneezing, and it has nothing to do with vaccinations. Hello, thank you for your question about Hercules. When vaccines are administered locally, through the nose, they can sometimes cause development of mild clinical signs such as sneezing. However, I would not expect these signs to last for a month after the vaccine. Cats are also prone to development of viral upper respiratory infections, that often occur after a stressful event (like vaccination). It is possible that Hercules has a mild upper respiratory infection. If Hercules is otherwise acting normal and is having no bouts of respiratory distress I would recommend continuing to monitor him. If the signs progress or he becomes lethargic, inappetant, or has increased effort to his breathing I would recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian as this could be a sign that he has another underlying condition such as asthma or bronchitis, both chronic (not uncommon) conditions in cats. Very rarely have I seen a dog get sick from the intranasal bordetella vaccine. If he is vomiting and/or having diarrhea then it is likely the simplecef that is causing this. I would make sure he is eating a full meal before giving him the antibiotics. If he is still sick or having other symptoms, I would contact you vet to ensure the antibiotics or ear drops wouldn't cause those symptoms. He may just need a different antibiotics that he can better tolerate. I hope this helps.
