My dog ate washi tape. Should I worry about blockage or is it safe?

Trick did eat a good size piece of vet wrap! Hopefully, it will pass through without problem, but I would monitor him to be safe for signs of obstruction just in case. These signs include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. If you see any of those signs, I would take Trick into the vet right away. If he is a larger dog, it should pass without problem, but it's always good to observe him to be safe.

It isn't toxic, but it could cause an obstruction. I would recommend taking Bo to the vet for evaluation now. If they suspect the tape is still in the stomach, then they may decide to induce vomiting to get it out of there. Small pieces of wood aren't a big concern, although they can sometimes cause constipation due to pain when trying to defecate them out.

Tape should not cause a problem, and it should pass in time. To be safe, monitor him for vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and/or lethargy. If you see any of those signs, take him into the vet. Best of luck.

Hello there! Tampons absorb fluid, so when ingested, they can swell in the intestines and cause a blockage that requires surgery. This could affect any size dog, but as Hershey is a large breed, she has a better chance of being able to pass the tampon without needing surgery. This is good news! The signs of her having an intestinal obstruction that requires medical or surgical attention would be: Not interested in food, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, being reclusive (like laying in a corner by herself) I am not alarmed that she has vomited once, but keep an eye on her. If she starts to show other signs that I mentioned, take her into her vet. They will recommend x-rays to check for a blockage in the intestinal tract and bloodwork to check for infections and anemia that can result from a blockage. Then they will either recommend medical intervention, which may include fluids, antibiotics, a high fiber diet, and enemas, or surgical intervention, which may include cutting the intestine to remove the tampon or having to remove a piece of intestine if there is tissue damage. Again, this is worst case scenario. As she is still eating well, defecating normally, and behaving normally, I think home monitoring is absolutely fine for now considering she is such a large dog. Next time she vomits, try to remove it from her before she can eat it again- I realize this is easier said than done. :) I hope this is helpful! Often times, paper towels will pass through without a problem - especially if Max chewed it into pieces before eating it. But there is always a chance that it could cause a blockage. You will need to monitor him closely for the next 2-3 days for any signs of a problem - if he begins vomiting, acting lethargic, or doesn't want to eat, then you need to take him to a vet right away for x-rays and possible surgery if a blockage is found. As long as he is acting normal, I wouldn't worry - you can keep an eye out for pieces of the paper towel to pass in his stool.

Oh dear! Dogs do love to chew and shred toilet paper when they can get to it - this is a very common occurrence :) The good news is, if he did swallow any of the paper, in most cases it will pass through without any problems. Toilet paper is very soft and tends to break up easily when it gets wet, so it would uncommon to see an intestinal obstruction caused by eating this. As long as Magnum is acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry. Signs of an obstruction would normally develop within 2-3 days, and would include vomiting, acting lethargic, not wanting to eat, and/or not having regular bowel movements. If you see any signs of a problem, it would be a good idea to take him to your vet to be checked.

It is a small amount of wax, and given her size, I would not say there is a huge chance of blockage. I would monitor her to be safe over the 72 hours. If you see any signs of vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. She should pass this fine, however.
