My dog ate rope, is sick, and I can't afford the vet. What to do?

Oh no, that wasn't good that Toby ate the blanket! Unfortunately no, there is nothing you can do to help him pass it, it will either pass on it's own or cause a blockage. I am concerned that he isn't eating much, and that can be a sign of an intestinal blockage from the blanket. The best thing to do is have him seen by a vet for x-rays to see if the blanket has caused a blockage or not. If it has, he will need surgery to fix it.  The Onyx & Breezy Foundation has many programs including helping people with medical bills. They are a good resource for information.
 Brown Dog Foundation provides funding to families with a sick pet that would likely respond to treatment, but due to circumstances, there is not enough money immediately available to pay. I would recommend feeding canned pumpkin and bread to Maggie to help pass the string through. If you notice that she is vomiting, lethargic or not eating then I would get her in to be seen by a veterinarian and have x-rays taken to help determine if the rope is causing an intestinal obstruction. If he ate rope and he is now having bloody stool, it is possible he has an intestinal obstruction or a very upset stomach. Your veterinarian will do a full physical exam and determine if additional diagnostic tests such as x-rays or bloodwork are warranted. Good luck and I hope Cujo feels better soon.

I am really concerned about Pumkin head, especially since she has vomited up underwear and is continuing to act ill. One of my biggest concerns is that she could have something stuck in her intestines causing a blockage or obstruction. This is a surgical emergency, because something in the intestines has the potential to cause rupture of the intestines. The best way to diagnose this is with abdominal x-rays. If there is anyone who can help you out financially, bringing her to an emergency veterinarian right away is ideal. If you absolutely cannot, please ensure she has plenty of access to water. You may try offering her small amounts of a highly digestible diet, such as boiled chicken and boiled rice. I hope this is helpful - sorry to hear that she is so sick.

Poor Rocko! From your description, I would be very concerned that he may still have part of the sock, or some other foreign object, stuck in his stomach or intestines. This problem generally causes repeated episodes of vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Unfortunately, if he does have an intestinal blockage, this is a life-threatening problem that needs emergency surgery - there is nothing you can do at home to treat it. So I would focus on finding a way to get him in to see a vet as soon as possible. She could have an intestinal obstruction or possibly just an upset stomach. She should be examined by a vet to determine if she has an obstruction and your vet can take an abdominal x-ray to evaluate. She would need surgery to remove the towel, if an obstruction is found. If your vet does not see evidence of an obstruction than he/she can prescribe medications to help treat the vomiting.
