My dog ate pokeweed. He has diarrhea and gas. What should I do?

You can try a home remedy on Belle to see if that helps before having to take her into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. Continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn’t stop, see your veterinarian. Restrict access to pine needles to prevent future episodes of diarrhea.

Apparently the earthworm protein is not compatible with your dog's digestion. I suggest you take him off all food for 12 hours and then feed him boiled white rice with boiled white boneless chicken in small quantities over several feeds a day. Do this for 2 days, then slowly transition back to his normal dog food over two or three days. By then the diarrhea should have stopped. Make sure he has plenty of water available at all times. Should he deteriorate or should the diarrhea get bloody, you will need to take your dog to a vet for an exam and treatment,

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. In this case, dietary indiscretion is possible given that petals were ingested. Assuming the petals were not from a toxic flower, you could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. If no improvement is noted, I recommend that you have Moose evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. The galls can cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested in large quantities. The excess mucous is likely due to inflammation/irritation in the colon caused by the galls. Withhold food for 24 hours. Please, do not offer Gracee anything to eat or drink for the next 3-4 hrs, then try very small amount of water (2-3 tablespoons). If she keeps it down, you should offer more every 30-40 min. If she takes it ok, you should try and offer her some bland food. Cooked chicken or other lean meat would be the best options. If she is eating, drinking and keeping everything down, you can slowly offer her more food and water and come back to her normal feeding routine over 2-3 days.
