Dog ate weeds, now has diarrhea & vomiting. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 8 years and 8 months old | 44 lbs

Dog had diarrhea and vomited in crate today while I ran a morning errand. She has had more diarrhea when taken out throughout the day. When husband got home I asked if she had normal bowel movement on her morning walk and she did. Then he said she ate some weeds (she likes young dandelion leaves etc) but he didn't know the neighborhood sprayed earlier this week. Assuming this is what caused the GI issues, Still eating and no other sx. Other than hydration do I need to do anything for her?

You can try a home remedy on Belle to see if that helps before having to take her into the vet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Poor girl, she may have a stomach illness causing this, or if she did eat the birdseed, it could be a cause. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food tonight, then in the morning feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. If not or if she develops other symptoms (diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc.), see your veterinarian.

My 7-month-old puppy keeps vomiting after eating weeds. Is he okay?

Poor Bobby sounds like he is feeling unwell! I would avoid giving him tea as well, especially if it has milk in it. Dairy causes GI upset in dogs, and it may be making his vomiting worse. The only liquid he needs, even when sick, is water. He could be suffering from a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. It's a good idea that you have kept him off food since, and if he has been off food for 24 hours, feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

My dog ate a plant and is sick. What to do for vomiting/diarrhea?

In looking up this plant, I can't find any information that they are toxic to dogs, but it is possible that eating it upset her stomach. Given that Roxy isn't acting any differently and is eating, I wouldn't be too worried about her just yet. I would be more worried if she having persistent diarrhea, is vomiting frequently, and isn't eating or drinking. You can try offering her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Should she return to normal (i.e. no vomiting or diarrhea), then she will be just fine. I would have her seen by a vet, however, if she starts vomiting more or having persistent diarrhea, or she stops eating and drinking. I hope this helps!

What to do if my dog is vomiting and has diarrhea from bad water?

Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Annabelle for 12 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if she gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on
