My dog ate oyster shells and is vomiting. Is it an urgent vet visit?

There are spray-on products such as bitter apple which may deter pets from chewing on furniture, eating seashells in your backyard decor, etc. However in an outdoor setting, such sprays will likely get washed away each time it rains. If Sadie is very persistent about eating the seashells, removing them completely or relocating to a place out of her reach is the safest option. Ingested seashells, even if chewed up, could become a life -threatening gastrointestinal foreign body obstruction/result in a gastrointestinal obstruction that would require an expensive surgery to resolve (with no guarantee of complete recovery). If Sadie continues to vomit, bringing her into your vet for diagnostics and treatment is the safest option. Symptoms of a foreign body obstruction include vomiting shortly after eating, minimal defecation, abdominal pain, and lethargy.

Poor Maggie. If she ate a lot of sand and seashells, that will be making her sick. Because she is vomiting, having diarrhea, is very lethargic, and not eating, she is too sick for a home remedy. You need to take her into a vet immediately to get this treated. Best of luck.

As a firstg approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Bloody vomit indicates serious damage to the esophagus and/or stomach. Considering this and the fact that she is at high risk for an obstruction from eating the bones and tampons, I recommend you take her to the vet immediately for treatment. Giving oil or vaseline will not be helpful and will actually make the problem worse. A vet will have to evaluate her more and can provide the necessary treatment to keep her from having life-threatening complications. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for this at home right now. The best thing you can do is get her to a vet as soon as possible. I hope that helps and Snoop gets better soon.

It sounds as Shiloh is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Call your vet clinic back, tell them it's urgent, and if they can't see or accept her as a drop-off, take her to someone else who will see her. She may have eaten something toxic, that didn't agree with her, she could have swallowed a non-food item that is now causing a blockage, she could have an infection, there are a number of possibilities. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, and x-rays to determine why she is ill and based on those results they will be better able to tell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.
