My dog ate a dead animal, now lethargic & won't eat. Vet needed?

I would recommend Oscar be evaluated by a veterinarian; hat is a large number of times that he has vomited, and with him not feeling well, I would recommend he be seen. There is the possibility that he ate something in addition to the mouse; and if the mouse caused such GI upset, he may need some medications to get his GI system normalized. I would recommend he be evaluated by his veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (xrays, etc) and start any treatment that he may need. Good luck!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Bruno. He really needs to be evaluated by a vet in your area to get to the bottom of this. The longer he goes without eating the weaker he will become and he will continue to refuse food. If you cannot get him turned around soon, you will be forced to get him to a vet. In the meantime, I would puree (in a blender) some canned dog food and water. You could even buy some canned baby food (meat flavors and dilute with water). Get a large dosing syringe from someone and start force feeding him very small volumes at first to see if he can hold a small amount of food down. 5-10 milliliter increments or 1-2 teaspoons. If he holds that down for an hour repeat the same process. If all goes well, you could start increasing the amount being fed until hopefully he starts eating on his own. I'm sure consuming the bird has caused this and I'm actually surprised that he is not sicker after about 4 days. Keep giving pedialyte/fluids also in between feedings if he can hold everything down. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ginger evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Hello, sorry to hear about Lillo. Its hard to tell what is going on with him. I would expect him to have a dietary indiscretion if he had eaten a rat. You may see vomiting and diarrhea associated with this, and yes some lethargy but not necessarily lethargy alone. I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian if he continues to be lethargic and is not drinking or eating at all. Hope this helps.

Poor Ekko! These signs can be caused by an obstruction (especially if he ingested bones and feathers) or a toxicity (perhaps something that the bird had eaten or made the bird sick). I recommend having Ekko seen by a vet as soon as possible to figure out what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment.

However, regardless of what caused these symptoms, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her. She may be dehydrated and in need of fluids, which the veterinarian can evaluate her for. I am so sorry this has happened to Babyboy. If he is still lethargic and not eating I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian. I urge caution when pouring water down dogs mouths as they can aspirate. I would also check his temperature to make sure he isn't too hot especially with the recent heat.
