My dog ate a chicken bone, now vomiting blood and panting. What to do?

Blood in the vomit is a medical emergency, and you are right to be concerned. Roy has to see a vet now. I am very concerned about the symptoms you have described. I don't think that Guffi has something that will easily get fixed by a single injection. I would recommend that he be re-evaluated by the vet since the treatment did not work. Being a puppy, it could be related to him eating the chicken head, or it could be something else like a GI foreign body, bacterial or viral infection (including parvo virus), stomach ulceration caused by the chicken head, among a few other things. Guffi may need bloodwork, viral testing, or x-rays to see what is causing his illness so that he can receive the most appropriate treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment could range from additional medications, to hospitalization for IV treatments, to surgery to remove something that is stuck in his GI tract.

I am sorry to hear Puppy doesn't feel well. Whilst you are right to be concerned about parvo if you live in a heavily infected area, I would be less worried since you say Puppy is fully vaccinated. Given that Puppy ate a bone recently and has the symptoms develop since then I am suspicious that this is the cause. Ongoing vomiting, especially with a decresed appetite and the blood that you have seen is very concerning. Pain in the belly could be an indication of an infection, an obstruction/blockage, or even a condition called pancreatitis. I would recommend taking Puppy to your vet for a thorough physical exam. Depending on the findings they may recommend blood work, X-rays, hospitalization with IV fluids and even an ultrasound of the belly.

It could be due to dietary indiscretion or even more concerning due to a gastrointestinal obstruction. The fact that Bailey ate dinner and did not vomit makes me think that it is less likely for this to be an obstruction though if the vomiting resumes or he stops eating, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. As long as he is behaving normally otherwise, you can fast him for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (cooked, plain white rice and boiled boneless/skinless chicken breasts) in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour. If he keeps it down, gradually increase the amount fed. Feed bland until there is no vomiting for 48 hours then transition slowly to his regular diet. If the vomiting persists or if Lightning develops lethargy, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain, then you'll need to have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

I would not recommend making Cooper vomit. IF he continues to vomit I would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible for a possible obstruction. I would monitor him closely for eating, drinking and defecation. If he is not defecation or having diarrhea I would recommend taking him to a vet. These large bones can cause a blockage or severe gastric upset. Hope that helps

Poor Aj! I would recommend taking him to the vet today for an exam, as from your description I'm concerned that he may have an intestinal blockage or some damage to his stomach or intestines from the bone. Your veterinarian can take x-rays to assess the situation and see what needs to be done.
