My dog has arthritis, on Rimadyl, still limping. Can I give Ibuprofen?

It is not recommended to give pets ibuprofen. I recommend instead to call your veterinarian. They may want to see him to make sure his cranial cruciate ligament has not been injured or that a kneecap is out of place. They can also provide pet safe pain medication. Tonight keep him off the leg as much as possible. Gently massage the leg and you can apply a cool, not cold, compress. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Legally, a pet must be physically examined by a vet before any treatment can be prescribed or recommended. Rimadyl can be used for any muscular or joint inflammation or pain, so it is probably the right choice for Westley. If you get in touch with your local vets, they should be able to advise about the dose for Westley. You will also find Rimadyl dosage on the leaflet, that should be provided with the tablets that were prescribed for Winston.

Hi there. As long as Ellie is otherwise healthy, rimadyl is fine to give at the labeled dose. She may have a sprain that will resolve, but I would make sure you rest her and if the limp does not improve take her in when your vet opens. I hope that helps. I am sorry to hear that Mattie isn’t feeling well. Rimadyl is great for arthritis pain and problems that improve with an anti inflammatory medication. However, without know what is wrong with Mattie there is a possibility that the Rimadyl could make things worse. Such as if she is suffering from liver disease, pancreatitis, intestinal foreign object, or a bleeding abdominal tumor. I know it is hard to watch your dog be uncomfortable, but until there is a diagnosis I would be very cautious about using the Rimadyl. There are no safe over the counter pain control medications that can be used without the guidance of a veterinarian. The pain is likely due to a combination of factors including arthritis and the abnormal bone growth you described. Good luck!

The accepted dose of Rimadyl is about 1 mg per pound every 12 hours, so I would not give more than 50 mg in a 12 hour period. Rimadyl comes in 25, 75, and 100 mg tablet sizes and I don’t know which one you have. If she has already had an appropriate dose and she is still uncomfortable then she should probably be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Hi there. I'm assuming you mean Rimadyl? If so, this medication should NEVER be given more frequently than directed by your veterinarian, since overdoses can cause serious damage to the stomach and kidneys. I would recommend calling your veterinarian tomorrow morning to see what they suggest - they may ask you to skip Evie's next scheduled dose. You will also need to monitor her for any signs of a problem such as vomiting or not wanting to eat, and take her in right away to be seen if any problems are noted.
