Should my active 95lb Lab with ankle issues eat Hills Science Diet?

Hello. I would start with Hill's sensitive Skin & Stomach. It is not a light food, but by feeding the recommended amount on the bag for a 60-80 pound dog, he should begin to drop a little weight. For his joints, you want to give him a name brand supplement & I recommend Nutramax. They make Cosequin & Dasuquin Advanced. I would also start him on a fish oil supplement, 1000-2000 mg daily. As he ages, he may need more help with his arthritis & we have excellent pain modalities for dogs including appropriate non steroidal drugs, & prescription joint treatments called Adequan. Thank you for more information on your pet! Your dog should be getting a high quality dog food such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet. I would also have him seen by a vet, as there could be a medical illness behind him being so thin such as intestinal worms or an inability to digest nutrients properly. The vet can diagnose if there is a medical illness causing him to be so thin, and can prescribe treatment for him.

Hill Science diet is considered one of the top brands of dog food as they conduct many trials and research to assure an excellent quality food. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is doing well on the food you are feeding I personally do not think you have to change. Just watch her weight as obesity is a huge problem in labs and only worsens arthritis. I would first look with in the brand you are feeding to see fi they make a senior formula that is also lamb and rice. I do like Hill's senior diets but they only come in chicken. The best food is likely going to be Hill's j/d prescription diet. The biggest issue with dogs that have these deformities is that they are more susceptible to getting arthritis. Hill's j/d has supplements and added nutrients to help with arthritis and is good for controlling weight (a crucial part of preventing arthritis). I hope that helps and all is well with Opie.

I would say Joey is a large breed dog based on his mix of breeds. I recommend feeing him a high quality large breed dog food. These foods will have joint support, which is great for bigger dogs. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps!
