My dog has anal bleeding after heat, but seems healthy. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 70 lbs

My dog has occasional leaking of blood from her anus right after being in heat. I checked her stool and didn't see any parasites and there's no blood in stool. She's not acting sick and isn't licking at it.

Patches could have intestinal parasites, anal gland infection or stress colitis from her heat cycle. Most parasites are not seen by the naked eye, a fecal parasite exam by your vet can looks for parasite eggs,Protozoa or other organisms.
Dogs can also develop ulcers or GI cancers. I would recomend a vet visit to assess Patches.
