It is possible that she has seasonal allergies or that the heat brings on the infections. It is also possible that she had a food allergy. I would discuss these concerns with your veterinarian. There are medications such as Apoquel and prednisone which may help to decrease the itch. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

She may have allergies to food or to something in the environment that keeps causing the breakouts and that is why it is recurring or the infection is it getting treated long enough. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! From your pictures I think the crusts are epidermal collarettes which are the end results of a pustule. A pustule usually indicates a bacterial skin infection. Skin infections can be from allergies due to food or the environment. Ideally oral antibiotics are used to clear bacterial skin infections. If she is also itchy then we prescribe medications to helps that as well. Below is a medicated shampoo that may help. I recommend bathing 2-3 times per week and allowing the lather to sit on for 10 mins on the affected areas before rinsing. If the skin doesn't improve I recommend a Vet exam. Aragorn's current skin lesions look most suspicious for a bacterial skin infection. These often occur as a result of itching from underlying allergies. You can try bathing the lesions with an antimicrobial shampoo a few times per week, but if the lesions persist or worsen, he will need to go back to his vet because he may need a course of antibiotics to manage this current issue. Make sure that Aragorn is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or Advantix) regularly because flea issues can exacerbate allergies in many dogs. Some allergic dogs also benefit from either ongoing Apoquel treatment or allergy injections. I hope that all goes well!

Without actually seeing Baer it is hard to state if it is something that needs oral antibiotics or a medicated shampoo. I would let your veterinarian know that the scabs are coming back and the medication isn't helping. They may be able to prescribe something else or they may want to see Baer again depending on what it originally looked like.
