My dog is aggressive and protective after an attack. How can I help?

This can be a very hard behavioral issue to fix. I would recommend getting a trainer who specializes in this type of behavior to come to your house and start working with you all. It will take lots of reassurance and patience to break through his fears

There are other, better ways to discipline a dog but at this time it is going to be difficult to correct without a professional trainer. Does she have fear aggression? I don't know because I have not witnessed the behavior myself so I can't say for sure. You need a professional dog trainer to come to your house and see the dog's behavior and how the dog interacts with everyone in the house. Only then can they make recommendations on how to correct the problem. Sometimes you need to work concurrently with a veterinarian as behavior modification medications may be needed in the beginning of the re-training. Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about Cooper's troubles! I definitely don't blame him for being so traumatized. I would be too! In these situations, I always turn to local dog trainers for some help. They can work on helping Cooper get past his fears in a controlled setting. They can also help you work through him being so scared, and maybe even reintroduce him to other very friendly, laid back dogs. It is important to get professional help because as time goes on, Cooper will just become more agitated. Sometimes this can trigger dogs to fight, and he may wind up having another incident that makes all of this worse. If you visit your veterinarian, they may be able to recommend some natural supplements for Cooper, or even some anxiety medications for him as long as he goes and works with a trainer at the same time. I would recommend actually hiring a trainer to come and evaluate Axel. They can work with you and him on how to either stop the behavior or redirect him so he does not bite people. I strongly recommend you consult with a professional, in-home dog trainer. You need a trainer to come to your house and see the behavior and how you react. Likely you are making this worse. This is your best bet at correcting this problem before it worsens. Shy dogs that are unsure need special care and it is not recommended that you try to correct this on your own. She is going to resent other dogs jumping on her/being around her when she goes into heat. Taking unspayed dogs is to a dog park is not recommended and it is often posted at the entrance to the park that no intact animals (male or female) are allowed because it starts fights.
