My dog is aggressive after spay. Should I continue her Trazodone?

We actually often prescribe it just for this purpose - to keep dogs calm and quiet post-operatively. It is really best for her to be as inactive as possible for at least the next 7-10 days. Go ahead and give her the Trazodone tonight and then call your vet and consult with them tomorrow about how to proceed. It sounds like Bongo has some generalized anxiety issues as well as some aggression issues. You have already done some good things to help get this behavior in control. Neutering will definitely help even though you may not see the effects of immediately. Trazodone is a great drug but works mainly for sedation and not as much to relieve overall anxiety. I would recommend speaking with your vet about starting Bongo on an anti-anxiety medication like Prozac. This may help him as well. I would also recommend working with Bongo on routine/common commands and exercising him frequently. Both of these things will help him feel more relaxed and secure. I hope this helps. It depends on what sedatives the veterinarian is planning to use. Do not give this medication without the approval of the veterinarian. There can be potential drug interactions. Call your veterinarian and they will tell you what to do. I hope this helps.

Arya has been through a lot this week so I would give her a little time as she will still be very sore and disorientated from the anaesthetic. She may need a stronger painkiller so you could ring your vet. If the aggression continues over another week, I would contact an animal behaviourist before it gets out of hand.

How long ago was it when she was spayed? If it was very recent, is she on pain meds? If not then I would recommend discussing this with your veterinarian and see if they can put her on some type of pain medication. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having with Bella! Usually having accidents only when an owner is not home is a sign of separation anxiety. So Bella is not doing that to get attention, it's more a manifestation of her anxiety. There is also a chance that Bella has a urinary tract infection or other health issue causing the accidents. It sounds like the trazodone was helpful to her, so you may need to consider keeping her on it. The good news is trazodone tends to be a pretty safe medication for dogs. Adding in an Adaptil pheromone collar may also help reduce her anxiety. Solliquin is a supplement that can also help reduce anxiety. I'd also suggest discussing the changes with Bella as there are other medications that may help. You may need to schedule an examination for Bella to rule out other health concerns.
