Why is my dog suddenly aggressive after being spayed? What can I do?

It could be Clementine saw something at the vet that upset her, and she redirected her aggression at your other dog when she got home. Based on the information you provided, it sounds to me like Molly needs to be enrolled in a behavior class to help train her. I am sure that there are many trainers in your area, so I would begin calling them and see what they have available for classes. This is beneficial at this age because Molly is so young so take advantage of her age and train her early. I hope this helps!

Arya has been through a lot this week so I would give her a little time as she will still be very sore and disorientated from the anaesthetic. She may need a stronger painkiller so you could ring your vet. If the aggression continues over another week, I would contact an animal behaviourist before it gets out of hand.

If no improvement, I would check with your veterinarian if she is on any medications as this could be due to her reacting to a medication. If she is not on any medications and she does not improve, I would also check in with your veterinarian to make sure that she is not acting like this due to discomfort. A bitch spay is a big operation and it takes a dog a good while to settle from it due to the pain and anaesthesia. This could certainly have put her out of sorts. I would give her another week or so to settle and if she is no better then, it may be personality clash and would be best to speak to s behaviourist.

Humping can be an ongoing behavior that may happen from time to time and it is not necessarily due to her being spayed. The scooting could be due to anal gland issues. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If this is a sudden behavioral change I would have her examined. She could be painful or not feel well and she is acting out because of that. It is better for her health to be spayed, she is at risk for an infected uterus which is an expensive surgical emergency. Hormones can affect temperament, so it MAY help but it might not be the solution. If her exam and blood work are normal, you can have her spayed then consider training and medications to control her aggression. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bella the very best!
