Why are other dogs aggressive to my intact puppy? Why does he mount?

This is a good question. This may be unrelated to being intact, but in dogs that have early signs of aggression, I find that neutering ASAP can cause those signs to improve. Sometimes mounting behavior will continue (and even seen in females) but if there are other signs of aggression I would neuter immediately and also consider calling a positive reinforcement based trainer. Intact male dogs will fight to protect their territory and for females. Neutering him can help reduce the aggressive tendencies. I never recommend owners work with aggressive behaviors on their own due to the serious risks to safety, and it is something that is best left to the professionals. Hello there! I understand the frustration of having an unneutered male dog. They don't have hormone cycles like females do, so they don't have a "heat" like females do. Essentially, their hormone levels are the same all the time, which can be even more frustrating. Mounting behavior is not all hormonal, and does have a component of dominance (so he may still do this even after he's neutered). Even females will mount other dogs if they want to express their dominance over them. The mounting behavior will hopefully abate once a dominance hierarchy is established in your home between the dogs, but not necessarily. It can also spur fights, so be watchful over your dogs when they are together, and I recommend against leaving them alone together until you are comfortable with Shadow's personality and interactions with your older dog. Neutering may help, but it takes a long time for those hormones to get out of their system (at least a month), so in the meantime, consistent training can be helpful in stopping the behavior. I have seen some trainers keep a leash and harness on a dog that jumps or mounts, so that when the dog starts to jump up, they can step on the leash and prevent it. It's important to have another task for your dog to do instead of jumping/mounting, so starting off with teaching a solid "sit" could be helpful. Reward him with a treat for any positive behavior, and ignore undesired behavior. I highly recommend contacting a good trainer or veterinary behaviorist if the behavior continues. As an unneutered male, he is starting to feel the effects of male hormones, which can manifest in aggressive behavior. You can try to help him acclimate to other dogs by introducing them in a controlled manner, with both dogs on leashes and through a fence initially until you can see how they will react to one another. Some barking and growling is normal but by reassuring them both without getting too excited can help. The more excited you become, the more he will, and he may feel he needs to be protective of you. Additionally, work with your dog away from other dogs. Play, take him for runs (Huskies are born runners and are very high energy, as I'm sure you are aware.), get him involved in obedience, play fetch, get him involved in dog agility, flyball, anything and everything to keep him well exercised and tied. This will help him be calm and well behaved the rest of the time since a tired dog is a happy dog. And, unless you plan to breed him because he is an exemplary example of his breed, consider getting him neutered. This will remove the primary source of the hormones most responsible for aggression and will also help with other behavioral issues in the future, as well as reducing the urge to roam in search of females. This will keep him safer and less likely to be hit by a car if he does get out on his own.
