Is it safe for my dog to get his 5-in-1 vaccine after biting me?

Unless you bit him and have rabies, he can’t get it from biting you. Keep up on his vaccinations and he should be good. If Brownie has had his rabies vaccine, then the main risk is simple infection. You’ve already taken the first step but cleaning the wound and your vet will probably prescribe antibiotics. Other than that, there is not much to worry about. Best of luck to you and Brownie!

If your dog is over due then he should be boostered and put in a 6 month quarantine. If he is NOT vaccinated and the dog that bit him has been confirmed to be Rabies positive your dog should be euthanized. If you are not sure if the dog that bit him is truly positive for rabies then Bruno should be quarantined for 6 months. I wish you the best!

I'm sorry Tramp bit you! No, there is no risk of rabies to you from the bite. Even though he licks the mouths of dogs who aren't vaccinated, rabies is only passed from dogs who currently have it and he will not have it given he is vaccinated. As for him going after other dogs, I see that he isn't neutered. Intact males can be aggressive toward other dogs, and when they can't reach the object of their aggression, they turn on the nearest human or animal. It's called redirected aggression and it's serious. I recommend neutering him and having him seen by a professional behavioral expert to deal with his aggression. It can and does get worse over time, and you don't want him to attack another person's pet or a child. Something like that will have serious consequences for him. Good luck, I hope this helps!

But you should contact your local health department and talk to a human physician. If Austin has Rabies in the transmissible form (in the salivary glands) then he will show neurologic signs for rabies with in 10 days. Keep him quarantined for 10 days. If he dies from any cause he should be tested for Rabies if it is before the 10 days quarantine. Always keep your pets up to date on rabies and prevent them interacting with wild life and unvaccinated pets. I wish you the best!

Hi Margaux! I'm sorry that Chim Chim has been biting you. If he has been fully vaccinated against rabies, there is no worry to you about getting it from him. Now if he hasn't been fully vaccinated, i.e. he's had only one rabies vaccine and not the subsequent booster, I would give your human doctor a call. Your question about needing to be re-vaccinated is one related to human medicine, and since we are veterinarians and veterinary professionals, we cannot advise on human medical questions. As long as the dog didn't break the skin and is up to date on his vaccines, the boy should not need any vaccinations. However, I do recommend discussing this matter with a human physician.
