Warts in puppies are typically caused by the papilloma virus, and can regress and go away on their own in about a month or two. Teddy should be kept away from other dogs until the wart has regressed. If it doesn't regress in a month or two, or you can't afford to wait that long to return him to doggy daycare, I would speak to your vet about seeing if it can be removed or if medications can be used to get rid of it. Hello, this is associated with a papillomavirus that is also self limiting. That is, dogs can develop this and resolve on its own. The virus can be passed down from mom to offspring and the vaccine has been used to treat severe cases but does not produce immunity. The vaccine is usually considered in severe cases only where the dog may be unable to breathe. Therefore the only prevention is not to breed affected pets. Some may be carriers and not be affected by the disease. There are several treatment modalities for papillomas, including surgery, radiation, cryotherapy, or the vaccine. This most likely is Papillomavirus and is a virus that basically needs to run its course. It may get worse before getting better. If it interferes with Tyson's eating then I would discuss this with your veterinarian since we can crush some of the papillomas if needed but it is recommended to leave them be. It is contagious and dogs get it from playing with other dogs at dog parks, doggie day care or from playing with their normal dog friends. The immune system does clear it eventually though it can take several months sometimes. I usually crush them with my fingers or a hemostat to speed up the process. There is limited evidence that a 10 day course of azithromycin also speeds up regression. He shouldn't play with other dogs until it is completely gone. If Bradley does have a papilloma this can be contagious to other dogs so I would recommend not visiting your friend's dog. If you can still see the wart on your dog's mouth then it is possible that it could still be contagious to other dogs (it is not contagious to people). Most often dogs that are infected are young, immune compromised, or have wounds in the mouth. There are other skin growths that can look like warts that may not actually be viral in nature, so if your dog hasn't been examined by a vet already, I would recommend this.
