My 4-month-old puppy hasn't been dewormed. Can I do it now?

Hello, this is a great question for your puppy. It is not too late for parasite control. Given his age and history of no dewormer it is recommended to take a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian. They will evaluate for what specific types of internal parasites he may have and get him started at least on a general dewormer. The dosing schedule and frequency of the dewormer will be deterimined by your veterinarian and the results of the fecal analysis. Thank you.

Drontal is licensed for puppies at her age and you can get it over-the-counter from local vets, pet shops or online. Please, remember to repeat the treatment in two weeks time.

Looks like roundworms. There are many OTC dewormers that should work just fine. You can look for one that contains Pyrantel. It is still a good idea to have a vet diagnose what worms or other intestinal parasites are present. And Cujo will need re-treatment in 3 weeks to kill adults that hatch from eggs in the intestines right now. Hello. Ideally, you should bring a sample of the stool to your vet for a through analysis. That way, anything unusual can be properly treated. But in the meantime, you can go to any pet retailer & pick up several safe & common dewormers such as Pyrantel pamoate, or Safeguard wormer. This is a roundworm. He is old enough to give pyrantel a safe dewormer that is for roundworms and hook worms. That dewormer is inexpensive. You may be able to purchase it at your pet or feed store depending on where you live. Otherwise your veterinarian can deworm him. Proton should be dewormed every two weeks until a stool sample comes back negative. When he is old enough to start heartworm medication that also will prevent another parasite infection. Please keep the children away from his poop and wash their hands and yours after handling Proton. People can get roundworms but it is not common with normal hygiene. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes! Cooper could get the roundwroms from your friends dog if he eats her stool. Hopefully that won't happen. If your puppy is on heartworm prevention then he is also getting dewormed as well. I hope this helps!
