Will my dachshund-schnauzer puppy have a soft or shaggy adult coat?

Looking at adopting this puppy. I want to know what kind of hair he will have? His mom has curly hair because she is 1/4 schnauzer but 3/4 dachshund, the dad is long hair mini dachshund (with kind of wiry hair I think because of the snout). The owner said that he has long hair like his dad, his brothers and sisters have the moms wiry hair. When he grows up will he have shaggy hair like the dad? Or will it be the soft/long/fluffy kind? Hello. You have picked out such a cute puppy. The way his coat lays now, I would be quite certain that he should have the softer coat, possibly with a little curl or wave to it. What breed is my new puppy and what kind of coat will she develop?

Roxy is very cute! She is likely some sort of a mixed breed, possibly German Shepherd. She looks like she will have a coat more like a German Shepherd. When she is about four months old, the adult coat will grow in and it may change but I suspect it will have a short more harsh outer coat and a soft undercoat. What breed are my 4-week-old pups? Shih Tzu and Dachshund mix?

These look more like a Shih Tzu than a dachshund. It’s awfully early to be able to tell for sure. They don’t look as long bodied as a dachshund and the thicker coat and rounder snout look more like a Shih Tzu. They are adorable regardless. You can always get a DNA test done. I just rescued a puppy. How big will he get and what breed is he?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is adorable! He is a mixed breed dog but a predominant breed is hard to guess as he looks very well mixed. I would say that he has some characteristics of a Newfoundland and a Bernese mountain dog. I would say that he is likely to be a medium-sized breed dog to perhaps a bit larger. Good luck!

Will my puppy have long or short hair if parents have different coats?

This will depend on the genes he got from both his mother and father. There is likely a 50/50 chance that he will be either. I am afraid you may have to wait it out until Tony loses his baby hair and grows his adult hair.
