Dachshund came in from outside with a spot, what should I do?

This looks like a bruise, or possible bug bite. I recommend you photograph it every 3-4days for 7-10days to monitor if it is reducing or not. A full check up would be required if it is extending, changing colour or becomes painful or if it does not resolve within 3-4weeks.

This could be a wound or an infection. I would recommend cleaning this using a solution of diluted betadine and water (mix until a light brown color) and monitor for signs of worsening. If the area does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the area so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mindy! The discoloration or redness is with in the skin. It could be bruising, trauma or a dermatitis. If she is acting 100% normal today I would have her seen Monday by your Vet. If she is lethargic, not eating or vomiting then she should be seen on emergency today. If it is bruising the Vet will likely check blood work (to check for low platelets) and her clotting times. You can check other areas on her body for bruising or bleeding: gums and the ear pinna are common areas when there is a bleeding issue. I hope this helps and I wish Mindy the very best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Lucy was in an altercation with another dog and that area was injured then it is very likely a bruise. Bruises will fade on their own over time and do not need any treatment. I would check it daily and be sure it has faded away over 5-7 days. If the area increases in size, she starts scratching the area then it may be a hot spot or the start of a skin infection. I wish Lucy the best!

I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. If it does not bother Diesel at all and he is well in himself you could monitor him at home for 1-2 days. If it is a bruise or allergic reaction, it should go down without treatment. However, if it starts to bother your dog, please make an appointment with your local vets.
