Why does my dachshund run and hide under the bed after playing?

It sounds like she could have a problem with her back. Intervertebral disc disease is very common in the dachshund breed and she may have a disc that is starting to herniate. She needs to be examined by a vet to evaluate her back and determine the best treatment plan. Your vet may need to take an x-ray of her back. Anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxers, and pain medications are used to treat this condition, as well as strict rest. No jumping, running, or playing for 3-6 weeks. Could be a number of reasons why Chloe doesn't want to come out from underneath the bed. Something could have spooked her, she may not be feeling well or perhaps ambient temperatures have made it more comfortable for her underneath the bed. I would try coaxing her out with her favorite treat or toy and examining her for any injuries. If her tail is tucked and she is panting and seems nervous, then it's safe to assume that something has spooked her. Try calming her down in a soft voice and giving her her favorite treat. It may take a couple of days for her to recover from whatever the incident was. However if she seems ill and is not eating or drinking, vomiting or having diarrhea then it's best to have her examined by a veterinarian to determine the underlying disease or condition. The behavior you are describing makes me think Daisy is probably painful. Oftentimes when dogs are uncomfortable they seek comfort from their owner, will cry out in pain, will tremble or shiver, or be lethargic. In a dachshund I would be concerned about back/spinal pain since they are predisposed to intervertebral disc disease. Poor pup! I recommend resting Austin for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.
