My puppy hates water. How can I cool her down in the summer heat?

It's important to keep him cool especially in days like today, if you have a fan at home you can use it toward your puppy, it should help him cool down significantly. you can use a wet cloth on him several times a day, the water will help cooling him as well.

It just may be too cold in front of the fan. She may also be afraid of the fan. Panting is a dog's way to regulate the body temperature. You can try to cool her down by taking Daisy swimming, or play with her showering her with a garden hose. You can also give her ice cubes to play with or suck (or eat....) and put ice cubes into her drinking bowl into the water. This should all help to cool her down as she sees fit or likes.

Your best bet is to enroll Chloe in a good obedience class. There, she will learn to listen to you even with other dogs and people around. Under ordinary circumstances, she should not be too hot. Do not leave her outdoors in high temperatures with no shade or cold water (keep putting ice cubes in her water bowl if she is going to be out longer than 15 minutes). When it is very hot out, only let her stay out for enough time to do her business, and then bring her inside. If your home does not have air conditioning, a fan can be very helpful. Ice cubes in her bowl are a good idea indoors, too, or you can give her one periodically to chew. She cannot stay inside a car, even with the windows open halfway, for even a few minutes while you "run in to pick something up." Cars overheat very, very quickly. You may also find that someone has broken into your can to rescue your dog, which in certain circumstances is legal in places.

You can have a fan just for him, spray him down with a garden hose, provide a baby pool of water for him to go in when he wants or you can shave him down during the hot season. You can also have Jasper groomed so that his coat is shorter. Fans and even installing misters outside will help keep Jasper cool. I hope this helps! It depends on the dog. Your Aura may find it cool enough to be in a room with fan. However, if he keeps panting, drooling and looking unsettled he may need a room with AC to avoid overheating. If you can provide him with AC in the hottest days, please do so. I am sure he will feel better at 18-20C.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Heat could defenitely cause your puppies to not want to eat. With that heat it is very important to have an area of shade for them to hide, as well as free access to cool water at all times. Ideally, have a sprinkler or some water source (kiddy pool filled with water) that they can go in to cool down. Dogs overheat very easily and can get very sick with overheating.
